Nayakan

After his father is killed and he is tricked into stabbing a police inspector, Sakthivel Velu flees to Bombay where he meets a smuggler named Hussain who he takes over for and later seeks revenge when Hussain is killed by rival smugglers, but is ultimately shot and killed himself years later. Nayakan is a 1987 Indian Tamil-language Crime Drama film featuring Kamal Haasan, Saranya Ponvannan, Delhi Ganesh, Janagaraj, Karthika Pkr Nair, Nasser and Aditya Modi. Muktha Films was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Muktha Srinivasan, Muktha V. Ramaswamy and G. Venkateswaran. Nayakan is written by Balakumaran, Rajashri Raju and Mani Ratnam and it is directed by Mani Ratnam. GV Films acquired the distribution rights for the motion picture. Nayakan was released on 21st October 1987 and takes a screen time of 155 minutes. Nayakan was made on a budget of ₹1 crore. Cinematography was done by P. C. Sreeram and editing by B. Lenin and V. T. Vijayan. The music was composed by National Award winner Ilaiyaraaja. At the 1988 National Film Awards It won an award for Best Cinematography. At the 1988 National Film Awards It also won 3 awards including: Best Actor (Kamal Haasan), Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography.
