Maachis

Maachis is a movie that depicts the violent insurgency in Punjab during the 1980s caused by political events, and follows Kripal Singhs involvement with militant groups which results in his death in prison and his fiancées suicide. Maachis is a 1996 Indian Hindi-language Action Crime movie featuring Chandrachur Singh, Om Puri, Jimmy Sheirgill, Tabu Hashmi, Kanwaljit Singh, Kulbhushan Kharbanda and N. Behl. Maachis was Produced by R. V. Pandit. The film is written and directed by Gulzar Kalra. Eros Entertainment acquired the distribution rights for the movie. Maachis was released on 25th October 1996 and takes a screen time of 168 minutes. The Film was successful at box office. Maachis was made on a budget of ₹2 crore and it was a super hit at box office gross of ₹4 crore. Cinematography was done by Manmohan Singh and editing by M. Ravi & Sadanand Shetty. The music was composed by National Award winner Vishal Bhardwaj. At the 1997 National Film Awards It won an award for Best Actress (Tabu Hashmi).
