A film student in London discovers her grandfathers diary, leading her to make a film about three Indian freedom fighters, which inspires a group of young men in India to become passionate about the project, but tragedy and government corruption ultimately lead to their deaths and ignite public outrage. Rang De Basanti is a 2006 Indian Hindi-language Comedy Drama motion picture starring Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Atul Kulkarni, Kunal Kapoor, Alice Patten and Vijai Singh. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra Pictures was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Ronnie Screwvala. Rang De Basanti is written by Renzil D silva, Prasoon Joshi, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Kamlesh Pandey and Rensil D silva and it is directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. UTV Motion Pictures acquired the distribution rights for the film. Rang De Basanti was released on 4th August 2006 and takes a screen time of 167 minutes. The Film was successful at box office. Rang De Basanti was made on a budget of ₹28 crore and it was a hit at box office gross of ₹53 crore. The screenplay for the movie was written by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Kamlesh Pandey, Rensil D Silva and Aamir Khan. Cinematography was done by Binod Pradhan and editing by P. S. Bharathi. The music was composed by Ar Rahman along with A. R. Rahman. At the 2007 IIFA Awards It won 8 awards including: Best Screenplay, Best Art Direction, Best Background Score, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Song Recording, Best Sound Re-Recording and Best Sound Recording. At the 2007 IIFA Awards It also won 3 awards including: Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Soha Ali Khan), Best Music Director and Best Picture. At the 2006 National Film Awards It also won 3 awards including: Best Audiography, Best Editing and Best Playback Singer (Male). At the 2007 Filmfare Awards It also won an award for Best Cinematography. At the 2006 National Film Awards It also won an award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
