A story that revolves around drug abuse in the affluent north Indian State of Punjab and how the youth there have succumbed to it en-masse resulting in a socio-economic decline. Balaji Motion Pictures in association with Phantom Films. were the production houses involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Shobha Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor, Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane, Aman Gill, Sameer Nair and Madhu Mantena. Udta Punjab is written by Sudip Sharma and Abhishek Chaubey and it is directed by Abhishek Chaubey. Balaji Motion Pictures acquired the distribution rights for the motion picture. Udta Punjab was released on 17th June 2016 and takes a screen time of 149-132 minutes. Udta Punjab was made on a budget of ₹47 crore and it was a hit at box office gross of ₹58 crore. The screenplay for the movie was written by Sudip Sharma and Abhishek Chaubey. Cinematography was done by Rajeev Ravi and editing by Meghna Sen.
