In medieval Afghanistan, Alauddin Khalji plots to seize the throne of Delhi, marries Mehrunisa despite committing adultery and murder on their wedding night, while princess Padmavati falls in love with Ratan Singh who she accidentally wounded, leading to a series of events that culminate in Alauddin invading Chittor and the Rajput women choosing mass self-immolation, known as jauhar, over surrender. Padmaavat is a 2018 Indian Hindi-language Drama History film featuring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Anupriya Goenka, Aditi Rao Hydari, Raza Murad and Rohit Chaudhury. The movie is based on Padmavat by Malik Muhammad Jayasi. Bhansali Productions in association with Viacom 18 Motion Pictures. were the production houses involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Sudhanshu Vats and Ajit Andhare. Padmaavat is written by Prakash Kapadia and Sanjay Leela Bhansali and it is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Viacom 18 Motion Pictures acquired the distribution rights for the motion picture. Padmaavat was released on 25th January 2018 and takes a screen time of 163 minutes. The Film was successful at box office. Padmaavat was made on a budget of ₹215 crore and it was a hit at box office gross of ₹282 crore. The screenplay for the movie was written by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Prakash Kapadia. Cinematography was done by Sudeep Chatterjee and editing by Jayant Jadhar, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Akiv Ali. The music was composed by National Award winner Sanjay Leela Bhansali along with Sanchit Balhara. At the 2019 IIFA Awards It won 2 awards including: Best Actor in a Leading Role (Ranveer Singh) and Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Aditi Rao Hydari). At the 2019 Filmfare Awards It also won 2 awards including: Best Cinematography and Best Choreography. At the 2019 Filmfare Awards It also won an award for Best Actor (Ayushmann Khurrana). At the 2019 Filmfare Awards It also won 2 awards including: Best Playback Singer - Female and Best Music Director. At the 2019 National Film Awards It also won 3 awards including: Best Music Director, Best Playback Singer (Male) and Best Choreography.
