A 12-year-old girl named Anna with low self-esteem stays with her foster parents and discovers a ghost named Marnie who helps her find closure with her identity issues. The movie is inspired from When Marnie Was There by Joan G. Robinson. Studio Ghibli was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Yoshiaki Nishimura. The movie is directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi. Toho acquired the distribution rights for the motion picture.
