Umi Matsuzaki takes care of her family and runs a boarding house, where she meets Shun Kazama and together they renovate their high school club building, develop romantic feelings, discover they are siblings, but eventually find out they are not related and continue to be friends, ultimately saving the club building from demolition and learning the full story behind their past. From Up on Poppy Hill is a 2011 Japanese Japanese-language Animation Drama motion picture featuring Masami Nagasawa, Junichi Okada, Keiko Takeshita, Yuriko Ishida, Jun Fubuki, Takashi Naito and David Zyler. The movie is based on Kokuriko-zaka kara by Chizuru Takahashi Tetsur Sayama. Studio Ghibli was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Toshio Suzuki. The movie is directed by Gor Miyazaki. Toho acquired the distribution rights for the movie. From Up on Poppy Hill was released on 16th July 2011 and takes a screen time of 92 minutes. From Up on Poppy Hill was made on a budget of ¥2 billion and at the box office it grossed only ¥61 million. The screenplay for the movie was written by Hayao Miyazaki and Keiko Niwa.
