The story revolves around three interconnected narratives involving Conquistador Tomás Verdes quest, a man named Tom tending to a tree in a biosphere in space, and surgeon Tommy Creos desperate search for a cure for his wife Izzis brain tumor, ultimately leading to themes of acceptance and the cycle of life and death. The result is a morbid mess.The reason it isnt quite a turkey is that three fine actors Hugh Jackman, Rachel Weisz (whos married to Aronofsky and has never been filmed more lovingly) and Ellen Burstyn give it their all, so the piece has a rawness and acting power that offset Aronofskys absurd attempt to be Andrei Tarkovsky, David Lean and Stanley Kubrick all at the same time.
