In 1920s Copenhagen, Gerdas request for her husband Einar to model as a woman leads to Einars realization of her true identity as Lili, with Gerdas portraits gaining attention from art dealers when they move to Paris and a complicated dynamic forming between Gerda, Lili, and Hans as Lili seeks help for her identity struggle and ultimately undergoes a sex reassignment surgery that Gerda supports, but tragically, Lili dies from complications after her second surgery, leaving Gerda and Hans to visit a meaningful place and watch a scarf representing their connection being carried away by the wind.
