A couple moves into a haunted family mansion and strange occurrences lead them to suspect a family member, but it is eventually revealed that the wife has a split personality disorder and is responsible for the chaos. Swargachitra was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Swargachitra Appachan. Manichithrathazhu is written by Madhu Muttam and directed by Am Fazil. Swargachitra acquired the distribution rights for the film. Manichithrathazhu was released on 24th December 1993 and takes a screen time of 157 minutes. The Film was successful at box office. Manichithrathazhu was made on a budget of ₹1 crore and it was a super hit at box office gross of ₹7 crore. Cinematography was done by Venu, Anandakuttan and Sunny Joseph and editing by T. R. Shekar. The music was composed by M. G. Radhakrishnan along with Johnson. At the 1993 National Film Awards It won an award for Best Actress (Shobana). At the 1994 National Film Awards It also won an award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
