In what was meant as a harmless birthday prank, three of Reagan High School s most popular girls, Julie, Marcie, and Courtney pretend to kidnap their friend, the latter shoving a jawbreaker into the victim s mouth to keep her from screaming. Their plan goes awry when the girl accidentally swallows the jawbreaker, choking to death. The cool and calculating Courtney tries to cover the crime but is found out by school geek Fern Mayo. In return for her silence, Courtney transforms the gawky Fern into the stylishly beautiful Vylette, leaving the conscience-stricken Julie out in the cold, threatening to set her up for the girl s murder if she breaks her silence. Written by Jonathan Ruskin Jawbreaker is a 1999 American English-language Comedy Crime film featuring Rose Mcgowan, Rebecca Gayheart, Julie Benz, Judy Greer, Chad Christ, Ethan Erickson and Bob Tennent. Jawbreaker was Produced by Lisa Tornell and Stacy Kramer. The film is written and directed by Darren Stein. Sony Pictures Releasing acquired the distribution rights for the movie. Jawbreaker was released on 19th February 1999 and takes a screen time of 87 minutes. Jawbreaker was made on a budget of $3 million and at the box office it grossed only $3 million. Cinematography was done by Amy Vincent and editing by Troy T. Takaki. The music was composed by Stephen Endelman.
