Amu is the story of an Indian American woman who returns to India. The film takes a dark turn as Kaju learns that a horrifying genocide that took place twenty years ago turns out to hold the key to her mysterious origins. Amu is a 2005 Indian English-language Drama film featuring Konkona Sen Sharma, Brinda Karat, Ankur Khanna, Yashpal Sharma, Chaiti Ghosh, Aparna Roy and Shubh Mukherjee. Amu was Produced by Shonali Bose and Bedabrata Pain. The movie is written and directed by Shonali Bose. Amu was released on 7th January 2005 in English,Bengali,Hindi and Punjabi languages and takes a screen time of 102 minutes. Amu was made on a budget of ₹50 lakh and at the box office it grossed only $0 million. Cinematography was done by Lourdes Ambrose and editing by Bob Brooks. The music was composed by Nandlal Nayak. At the 2005 National Film Awards It won an award for Best Feature Film in English.

Bose does a lot with her low budget in terms of making the film look slick and professional, but frankly, a story based on such painful events doesnt need the distancing filter of a nave heroine, and it definitely doesnt need prestige picture sheen. ( Read More )
