The Mahishasuramardini radio program is a long-standing tradition in India that retells the story of the goddess Durga and, despite controversy regarding a change in narrator, remains a crucial part of Bengali culture. Mahalaya is a 2019 Indian Bengali-language Drama History motion picture featuring Subhasish Mukherjee, Jisshu Sengupta, Subhomoy Chatterjee, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Jishu Sengupta, Dulal Lahiri and Kartikey Tripathi. Nideas Creations and Productions Pvt Ltd was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Prosenjit Chatterjee and Nideas Creations And Productions Pvt Ltd. The film is written and directed by Soumik Sen. SVF acquired the distribution rights for the motion picture. Mahalaya was released on 1st March 2019 and takes a screen time of 108 mins. The screenplay for the movie was written by Soumik Sen. Cinematography was done by Mrinmoy Nandi and editing by Niladri Roy. The music was composed by Pankaj Mullick along with Debojyoti Mishra.
