Thalapathi

Surya, an abandoned baby raised by a slum dweller who was named Thalapathi by the gangster Devaraj, fights against injustice towards the poor, eventually revealing his identity as the second son of Kalyani and Arjun, resulting in a conflict with his father. Thalapathi is a 1991 Indian Tamil-language Crime Drama movie featuring Rajinikanth, Mammootty, Shobana, Arvind Swami, Srividya Krishnamurthy, Bhanupriya and Thalapathi Dinesh. GV Films was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) G. Venkateswaran. Thalapathi is written by Mani Ratnam and Umesh Sharma and it is directed by Mani Ratnam. G. V. Films Ltd acquired the distribution rights for the motion picture. Thalapathi was released on 25th November 1991 and takes a screen time of 167 minutes. Thalapathi was made on a budget of ₹3 crore. Cinematography was done by Santosh Sivan and editing by Gautham Raju and Suresh Urs. The music was composed by National Award winner Ilaiyaraaja.
