Shatranj Ke Khilari portrays two stories, one of the overthrowing of the Indian Nawab by the British and the other of two rich noblemen obsessed with chess, highlighting the self-centeredness and cowardice of Indias ruling classes during the annexation of Awadh by the British. Shatranj Ke Khilari is a 1977 Indian Hindi-language Comedy Drama movie featuring Sanjeev Kumar, Saeed Jaffrey, Shabana Azmi, Richard Attenborough, Farida Jalal, Amjad Khan and Agha. The movie is based on Shatranj ke Khiladi by Munshi Premchand. Shatranj Ke Khilari was Produced by Suresh Jindal. Shatranj Ke Khilari is written by Munshi Premchand, Satyajit Ray, Javed Siddiqui, Shama Zehra Zaidi, Shama Zaidi and Javed Siddiqi and it is directed by Satyajit Ray. Shatranj Ke Khilari was released on 3rd October 1977 and takes a screen time of 129 minutes. Shatranj Ke Khilari was made on a budget of ₹20 lakh. The screenplay for the movie was written by Satyajit Ray. Cinematography was done by Soumendu Roy and editing by Dulal Dutta. The music was composed by National Award winner Satyajit Ray.
