Janmabhoomi

A nationalist rural drama- Janmabhoomi was the first patriotic Hindi movie. The plot has Dr. Ajay Ghosh and his girl friend Protima working to improve the lives of Indian villagers, incurring the enmity of the local zamindar and his vicious, scheming henchman Sanatan. Ajay s relentless goodness eventually persuades the zamindar to bequeath his property to the hero, and general well-being reigns as class conflict is transmuted into class collaboration. The film includes the nationalist song Jai jai janani janmabhoomi and other choruses with a similar thrust. Written by Sujit R. Varma Janmabhoomi is a 1936 Indian Hindi-language Drama movie featuring Devika Rani, Ashok Kumar, Devika Rani Chaudhuri, Ashok Kumar Ganguly, Pramila, Khosla and Madhurika Devi. Bombay Talkies was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Himanshu Rai. Janmabhoomi is written by Niranjan Pal and J. S. Kashyap and it is directed by Franz Osten. Janmabhoomi was released on 10th November 1936. Cinematography was done by Josef Wirsching. The music was composed by Saraswati Devi.
