A former fighter pilot turned taxi driver, Ted, tries to win back his ex-girlfriend, Elaine, who is a flight attendant, but unintentionally causes the passengers to contemplate suicide, and later, they all fall ill from food poisoning, leaving Ted, Elaine, and other helping passengers to successfully land the plane with the assistance of an autopilot controlled by an inflatable dummy named Otto. Airplane! is a 1980 American English-language Comedy film starring Robert Hays, Julie Hagerty, Kareem Abdul-jabbar, Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves, Leslie Nielsen and Tony Regan. The movie is based on uncredited: Flight into Danger by Arthur Hailey Zero Hour! by Arthur Hailey Hall Bartlett John Champion. Paramount Pictures in association with Howard W. Koch Productions. were the production houses involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Jon Davison. Airplane! is written by Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, Jerry Zucker, Hall Bartlett, John C. Champion and Arthur Hailey and it is directed by Jim Abrahams, David Zucker and Jerry Zucker. Paramount Pictures acquired the distribution rights for the film.
