The House of the Spirits

Chile, second half of the 20th century. The poor Esteban marries Clara and they get a daughter, Blanca. Esteban works hard and eventually gets money to buy a hacienda, eventually to become a local patriarch. He becomes very conservative and is feared by his workers. When Blanca grows up, she falls in love with a young revolutionary, Pedro, who urges the workers to fight for socialism. It is unavoidable that Pedro and Esteban are pitted against each other. Esteban tries to stop the love affair between Pedro and his daughter by all means possible but soon Blanca becomes pregnant and has a daughter. The void between father and daughter ms unbridgeable when Blanca moves in with Pedro. Written by Mattias Thuresson The House of the Spirits is a 1993 English-language Drama Romance motion picture starring Meryl Streep, Jeremy Irons, Glenn Close, Winona Ryder, Antonio Banderas, Armin Mueller-stahl and Anabela Teixeira. Constantin Film was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Bernd Eichinger. The House of the Spirits is written by Isabel Allende and Bille August and it is directed by Bille August. Miramax Films acquired the distribution rights for the motion picture. The film has a running time of 140 minutes. The House of the Spirits was made on a budget of $40 million and at the box office it grossed only $6 million. Cinematography was done by J rgen Persson and editing by Janus Billeskov Jansen. The music was composed by Hans Zimmer.
