New York City police detective John Shaft (nephew of the original 1970s detective) goes on a personal mission to make sure the son of a real estate tycoon is brought to justice after a racially-motivated murder. Shaft is a 2000 American English-language Action Crime movie featuring Samuel L. Jackson, Vanessa Williams, Jeffrey Wright, Christian Bale, Dan Hedaya, Busta Rhymes and John E. Mack. The movie is inspired from Shaft by Ernest Tidyman. Scott Rudin Productions in association with New Deal Productions. were the production houses involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Scott Rudin and John Singleton. Shaft is written by Ernest Tidyman, John Singleton, Shane Salerno and Richard Price and it is directed by John Singleton. Paramount Pictures acquired the distribution rights for the movie. Shaft was released on 21st September 2000 and takes a screen time of 99 minutes. The Film was successful at box office. Shaft was made on a budget of $46 million and it was a super hit at box office gross of $107 million. The screenplay for the movie was written by Richard Price, John Singleton and Shane Salerno. Cinematography was done by Donald E. Thorin and editing by John Bloom and Antonia Van Drimmelen. The music was composed by David Arnold.
