Written by Rod Crawford State Fair is a 1945 American English-language Comedy Drama movie featuring Jeanne Crain, Dana Andrews, Dick Haymes, Vivian Blaine, Charles Winninger, Fay Bainter and Valerie Traxler. The movie is inspired from State Fair by Sonya Levien Paul Green State Fair by Phil Stong. State Fair was Produced by William Perlberg. The movie is directed by Walter Lang. 20th Century Fox acquired the distribution rights for the motion picture. State Fair was released on 30th August 1945 and takes a screen time of 100 minutes. The movie made a box office gross of $4 million. The screenplay for the movie was written by Oscar Hammerstein II , Sonya Levien and Paul Green. Cinematography was done by Leon Shamroy and editing by J. Watson Webb Jr. The music was composed by Richard Rodgers.

With the exception of the songs, the 1945 version is a weak musical, due to Walter Langs pedestrian direction and Crains pale performance, though this is the movie that made Crain a star. ( Read More )
