The story follows Julius Caesars alliance with Cleopatra in Egypt, their marriage and the birth of their son, Caesarion, after Caesars death, Cleopatra begins a relationship with Antony who eventually divorces his wife for her, however, Octavian turns Rome against Antony and defeats him in the Battle of Actium, leading to Antonys suicide and Cleopatras surrender to Octavian, resulting in her eventual suicide as well. Cleopatra is a 1963 American English-language Biography Drama motion picture featuring Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Rex Harrison, Roddy Mcdowall, Martin Landau, Hume Cronyn and Helen Azevedo. The movie is inspired from The Life and Times of Cleopatra by C. M. Franzero Histories by Plutarch Suetonius and Appian. Cleopatra was Produced by Walter Wanger. Cleopatra is written by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, Ranald Macdougall, Sidney Buchman, Plutarch, Suetonius, Appian, Carlo Maria Franzero and Ben Hecht and it is directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz. Twentieth Century-Fox Film Corporation acquired the distribution rights for the movie. Cleopatra was released on 31st July 1963 and takes a screen time of 243 minutes. Cleopatra was made on a budget of $31 million and at the box office it grossed only $1 million. The screenplay for the movie was written by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, Ranald MacDougall and Sidney Buchman. Cinematography was done by Leon Shamroy and editing by Dorothy Spencer. The music was composed by Alex North. At the 1964 Oscar Awards It won 4 awards including: Best Cinematography, Color, Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Color, Best Costume Design, Color and Best Effects, Special Visual Effects.
