A proposal between two couples leads to a complicated situation and a sisters sacrifice, with the movie exploring the aftermath and addressing themes of sisterhood, sacrifice, guilt, fear, justice, forgiveness, and the power of familial bonds. KPR Entertainments was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Sreekumaran Thampi and Bhavani Rajeswari Cambines. Amma is written by Sreekumaran Thampi and directed by Rajasekhar Ramanathan and Sreekumaran Thampi. Amma was released on 24th June 1982. Amma was made on a budget of ₹30 lakh and at the box office it grossed only ₹7 lakh. Editing was done by V. P. Krishnan. The music was composed by Shankar Ganesh along with Shyam.
