A scientist trying to cure a young womans polio develops an experimental serum that requires human spinal fluid while attempting to stop the rampage of a vicious circus ape that may be connected to the polio patient, emphasizing the dangers of unethical research practices. The Ape is a 1940 American English-language Horror motion picture featuring Boris Karloff, Maris Wrixon, Gene O donnell, Dorothy Vaughan, Gertrude Hoffman, Henry Hall and Minerva Urecal. The movie is inspired from The Ape by Adam Hull Shirk. Monogram Pictures Corp. was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Scott R. Dunlap. The movie is directed by William Nigh. Monogram Pictures Corp. acquired the distribution rights for the motion picture. The Ape was released on 30th September 1940. The screenplay for the movie was written by Richard Carroll and Curt Siodmak. Cinematography was done by Harry Neumann and editing by Russell Schoengarth. The music was composed by Edward J. Kay.
