A struggling widow falls in love with an illiterate short-order cook whom she teaches to read and write in her kitchen each night. Stanley & Iris is a 1990 American English-language Drama Romance motion picture featuring Jane Fonda, Robert De Niro, Swoosie Kurtz, Martha Plimpton, Harley Cross, Jamey Sheridan and Armen Arisian. The movie is based on Union Street by Pat Barker. Lantana Productions in association with Star Partners II Ltd. and MGM/UA Communications Co. were the production houses involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Arlene Sellers and Allen Winitsky. Stanley & Iris is written by Pat Barker, Harriet Frank Jr. and Irving Ravetch and it is directed by Martin Ritt. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer acquired the distribution rights for the movie. Stanley & Iris was released on 9th February 1990 and takes a screen time of 104 minutes. Stanley & Iris was made on a budget of $23 million and at the box office it grossed only $5 million. The screenplay for the movie was written by Harriet Frank, Jr. and Irving Ravetch. Cinematography was done by Donald McAlpine and editing by Sidney Levin. The music was composed by John Williams.
