During World War II, the Nazis open a dimensional portal with the help of Rasputin, but an infant demon named Hellboy is adopted by Trevor Bruttenholm, and sixty years later, as an adult, he works with the BPRD to battle supernatural creatures, including a resurrected creature named Samael and a plan to release the destructive Ogdru Jahad, ultimately sacrificing himself to defeat Rasputin and being revived to share a kiss with Liz.
