In 1980s Bollywood, an unemployed man named Sobhan Babu leaves his family to earn money but is believed to be dead after his boat capsizes, while his wife, Vanisree, remains hopeful; Shankar, the real name of Sobhan Babu, is rescued and becomes wealthy, eventually revealing his true identity and forming a bond with Jaya, who saved Bhavani and is terminally ill. Mahalakshmi is a 1980 Indian telugu-language Drama movie featuring Tamannaah, Mohan Babu Manchu, Sobhan Babu and Vanisri. The movie is based on Queen by Vikas Bahl. Mediente International Films Ltd was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Manu Kumaran. The movie is directed by Prashanth Varma. Mahalakshmi was released on 1st January 1980. Cinematography was done by Michael Taburiaux and editing by Gowtham Nerusu. The music was composed by Amit Trivedi along with Arjuna Harjai.
