Elwood Reid Inc. in association with Hillman Grad Productions, Freedom Road Productions, Verse Productions, Kapital Entertainment, Fox 21 Television Studios and Showtime Networks. were the production houses involved in the project. The series premiered on January 7, 2018. 20th Television acquired the distribution rights for the television show. Creator of the series is Lena Waithe.
