    • His Dark Phoenix is more thoughtful than The Last Stand, and certainly a more downbeat and introspective X Men movie than the last one, the goofy and overlong Apocalypse. ( Read More )
    • Stephen Thompson

The script could be a lot snappier, particularly during some virtually unexplained rivalry banter between Marsden and Jackman, but X Men is a decent start to what will no doubt be an immensely profitable series of negligible but enjoyable summer movies. ( Read More )
    • Roger Ebert

    • James Rocchi

McKellen and Stewart are perfectly cast, and the remainder of the actors (with the exception of the seemingly reluctant Berry) are all excellent.A super hero film with real ambition and true talent can be very rare in Hollywood; X Men is, alongside The Dark Knight and the first two Spider Man films, one of the highlights in the modern exploration of the sub genre. Visually, X Men keeps throwing things at you.The movie is a cornucopia of F/X gimcrackery: Eyeballs morph, buildings buckle, metal walkways extend at the speed of thought, a bullet spins on a mans forehead without going in. ( Read More )
