A 17-year-old American girl travels to London to meet her British father who is engaged to a snobby woman, but she faces challenges from his social circle and an upper-class boy, causing her fathers political campaign to suffer until she changes her ways and helps him break off his engagement, ultimately reconciling with her father, getting accepted into Oxford, and dating a local boy named Ian. The movie is inspired from The Reluctant Debutante by William Douglas-Home. Di Novi Pictures in association with Gaylord Films and Gerber Pictures. were the production houses involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Denise Di Novi, Bill Gerber and Hunt Lowry. What a Girl Wants is written by William Douglas-home, Jenny Bicks and Elizabeth Chandler and it is directed by Dennie Gordon. Warner Bros. Pictures acquired the distribution rights for the film.
