Welcome to Marwen

A funny biographical drama Welcome to Marwen is about an artist whose mind and memory are shattered after a violent assault. He creates a miniature world to process his trauma and to learn how to live again. The film stars Steve Carell in the lead role with Leslie Mann, Diane Kruger, Merritt Wever, Janelle Monáe, Eiza González, Gwendoline Christie, Leslie Zemeckis, Siobhan Williams and Neil Jackson in supporting roles. Filming which began on August 14, 2017, was completed around October 19, 2017, and it was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The screenplay was written by Caroline Thompson and directed by Robert Zemeckis. The film was produced by Jack Rapke, Steve Starkey, and Robert Zemeckis for Universal Pictures, DreamWorks Pictures, ImageMovers, and Perfect World Pictures and was distributed by Universal Pictures. Interestingly the dolls that were portrayed were via motion capture by their respective actors and actresses. The music was composed by Alan Silvestri. Adept cinematography by C. Kim Miles and clear cut editing by Jeremiah O Driscoll makes it a watchable movie. The film was released on December 21, 2018, and occupies screentime of 116 minutes. The film is based on the true story of Mark Hogancamp, a man struggling with PTSD who, after being physically assaulted, creates a fictional village (Marwencol) to ease his trauma.
