The Government of Pakistan reopens old cases of Indian prisoners, leading young lawyer Saamiya Siddiqui to defend prisoner 786, Veer Pratap Singh, who hasnt spoken in over two decades; through her efforts, she discovers Veers love story with Pakistani woman Zaara Hayaat Khan, and ultimately proves his innocence, allowing them to marry and return home. Veer-Zaara is a 2004 Indian Hindi-language Drama Family film featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Rani Mukerji, Kiron Kher, Divya Dutta, Boman Irani and Rammy C. Pandey. Yash Raj Films was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Aditya Chopra and Yash Chopra. Veer-Zaara is written by Aditya Chopra and directed by Yash Chopra. Yash Raj Films acquired the distribution rights for the film. Veer-Zaara was released on 12th November 2004 and takes a screen time of 192 minutes. The Film was successful at box office. Veer-Zaara was made on a budget of ₹23 crore and it was a super hit at box office gross of ₹97 crore. Cinematography was done by Anil Mehta and editing by Ritesh Soni. The music was composed by Madan Mohan Kohli along with Madan Mohan, R. S. Mani and Sanjeev Kohli. At the 2005 IIFA Awards It won 2 awards including: Best Makeup and Best Story. At the 2005 IIFA Awards It also won 5 awards including: Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Rani Mukerji), Best Actor in a Leading Role (Shah Rukh Khan), Best Director, Best Music Director and Best Picture. At the 2005 National Film Awards It also won an award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
