An American writer in Paris becomes involved with a mysterious woman and a barmaid, but when his neighbor blackmails him, his daughter goes missing and he believes a dark force is targeting those who have wronged him; however, he discovers that the woman he thought he was involved with died years ago, and after his daughter is found, he chooses to return to her apartment.
