A man named Ryder hijacks a subway train in New York City, demanding a ransom and threatening hostages, while the train dispatcher, Walter Garber, negotiates with him, eventually leading to a gunfight and Ryders death on the Manhattan Bridge, after which Garber is praised and returns home to his wife.
