After being wrongly arrested and mistaken for the Inspector General, Georgi is pursued by the towns officials and the mayors wife, falls in love with a servant, and is eventually named the new Mayor of Brodny. The Inspector General is a 1949 American English-language Comedy Musical motion picture starring Danny Kaye, Walter Slezak, Barbara Bates, Elsa Lanchester, Gene Lockhart, Alan Hale and Tom Wilson. The movie is inspired from Suggested by the play by Nikolai Gogol. Warner Bros. Pictures was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Jerry Wald and Sylvia Fine. The movie is directed by Henry Koster. Warner Bros. Pictures acquired the distribution rights for the movie. The Inspector General was released on 31st December 1949 and takes a screen time of 100 minutes. and it received positive reviews from critics when it was released and became successful at box office. The Inspector General was made on a budget of $2 million and it was a hit at box office gross of $3 million. The screenplay for the movie was written by Philip Rapp and and Harry Kurnitz. Cinematography was done by Elwood Bredell and A.S.C. and editing by Rudi Fehr. The music was composed by Sylvia Fine along with Johnny Green.
