In the 1980s, a bullied boy named Albert Weinselstein receives a magic set and, along with his friend Anthony Mertz, becomes a successful magician duo known as Burt Wonderstone and Anton Marvelton, but their arrogance and declining popularity due to a new street magician named Steve Gray leads to the end of their partnership, loss of everything, and a chance encounter with a retired magician named Rance Holloway reignites Burts passion for magic and together they perform a successful disappearing audience trick using a sleeping drug found in Cambodia, ultimately revealing that they transported the audience unconventionally using a moving van.
