In a small village in Himachal Pradesh, a girl named Biniya trades her lucky necklace for a beautiful blue Japanese umbrella, gaining fame, but when the umbrella goes missing, she accuses the jealous shopkeeper Khatri of stealing it, only to later discover the truth and help him regain acceptance in the village. The Blue Umbrella is a 2005 Indian Hindi-language Comedy Drama film starring Pankaj Kapoor, Shreya Sharma, Deepak Dobriyal, Pankaj Kapur, Rahul Kumar, Paramjit Singh Kakran and Manek Bedi. The movie is based on The Blue Umbrella by Ruskin Bond. The Blue Umbrella was Produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Vishal Bhardwaj. The Blue Umbrella is written by Ruskin Bond, Minty Kunwar Tejpal, Abhishek Chaubey and Vishal Bhardwaj and it is directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. UTV Motion Pictures acquired the distribution rights for the film. The Blue Umbrella was released on 10th August 2007 and takes a screen time of 92 minutes. The Blue Umbrella was made on a budget of ₹2 crore and at the box office it grossed only ₹36 lakh. Cinematography was done by Sachin Kumar Krishnan and editing by Aarif Shaikh. The music was composed by National Award winner Vishal Bhardwaj. At the 2006 National Film Awards It won an award for Best Children s Film.
