In 1889 Montana, lawman Edward Johnson is killed by a sniper, leading his loyal partner Lefty Brown to seek vengeance with the help of young Jeremiah and Marshal Tom Harrah, discovering that Governor James Bierce was behind Edwards murder as part of a corrupt railroad deal, ultimately resulting in Lefty taking justice into his own hands by hanging the governor before riding off alone, leaving Jeremiah with Edwards wife Laura.
