Jack, a man on the run, forms relationships with various individuals in different locations, but his paranoia and suspicion of others ultimately leads to a tragic end. The movie is inspired from A Very Private Gentleman by Martin Booth. This is that in association with Smoke House Pictures. were the production houses involved in the project along with executive producer(s) George Clooney, Anne Carey, Jill Green, Ann Wingate and Grant Heslov. The American is written by Rowan Joffe and Martin Booth and it is directed by Anton Corbijn. Focus Features acquired the distribution rights for the film. The American was released on 8th October 2010 in English and Italian languages and takes a screen time of 105 minutes. The American was made on a budget of $20 million and at the box office it grossed only $1 million. The screenplay for the movie was written by Rowan Joff.
