In 1964, an aspiring jazz drummer named Guy Patterson replaces a broken-armed drummer in a band called the Oneders, leading them to win a talent show with their hit song That Thing You Do!, which attracts attention from Play-Tone Records and leads the band on a successful but tumultuous journey filled with industry experiences and personal conflicts, ultimately resulting in the dissolution of the band, with each member pursuing their own future paths. That Thing You Do! is a 1996 American English-language Comedy Drama film featuring Tom Everett Scott, Liv Tyler, Johnathon Schaech, Steve Zahn, Ethan Embry, Tom Hanks and Howie Long. Clavius Base was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Jonathan Demme, Gary Goetzman and Edward Saxon. The motion picture is written and directed by Tom Hanks. 20th Century Fox acquired the distribution rights for the film. That Thing You Do! was released on 4th April 1996 and takes a screen time of 108-148 minutes. and it received positive reviews from critics when it was released and became successful at box office. That Thing You Do! was made on a budget of $26 million and it was a hit at box office gross of $34 million. Cinematography was done by Tak Fujimoto and editing by Richard Chew. The music was composed by Howard Shore.
