Swades: We, the People

A non-resident Indian working at NASA visits India to reunite with his childhood nanny, who is living with his childhood friend running a school, and he decides to help improve the village through education and building a hydroelectric power generator before eventually settling there. Swades: We, the People is a 2004 Indian Hindi-language Drama Musical movie starring Shah Rukh Khan, Gayatri Joshi, Kishori Ballal, Kishori Balal, Smit Sheth, Lekh Tandon and Prajakta Mali. Ashutosh Gowariker Productions was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Ashutosh Gowariker. Swades: We, the People is written by M.g. Sathya, Ashutosh Gowariker, Sameer Sharma, Lalit Marathe, Amin Hajee, Charlotte Whitby Coles, Yashodeep Nigudkar, Ayan Mukherjee and K.p. Saxena and it is directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. UTV Motion Pictures acquired the distribution rights for the movie. Swades: We, the People was released on 17th December 2004 and takes a screen time of 195 minutes. and it received positive reviews from critics when it was released. Swades: We, the People was made on a budget of ₹25 crore and at the box office it grossed only ₹15 crore. The screenplay for the movie was written by Ashutosh Gowariker, Ayan Mukerji, Sameer Sharma, Lalit Marathe, Amin Hajee, Charlotte Whitby Coles and Yashdeep Nigudkar. Cinematography was done by Mahesh Aney and editing by Ballu Saluja. The music was composed by A. R. Rahman.
