Swades

A successful Indian scientist returns to an Indian village to take his nanny to America with him and in the process rediscovers his roots. Swades is a 2004 Indian Hindi-language Drama Family movie starring Shah Rukh Khan, Gayatri Joshi, Kishori Ballal, Kishori Balal, Smit Sheth, Lekh Tandon and Valsala Menon. The movie is based on Chigurida Kanasu by T. S. Nagabharana and Shivarama Karantha. Ashutosh Gowariker Productions was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Ashutosh Gowariker, Ronnie Screwvala and Bhaumik Gondaliya. Swades is written by M.g. Sathya, Ashutosh Gowariker, Sameer Sharma, Lalit Marathe, Amin Hajee, Charlotte Whitby Coles, Yashodeep Nigudkar, Ayan Mukherjee, K.p. Saxena, Ashutosh Gowariker & M.g.sathya and K. P. Saxena and it is directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. UTV Motion Pictures acquired the distribution rights for the movie. Swades was released on 17th December 2004 and takes a screen time of 203 minutes. Swades was made on a budget of ₹22 crore and at the box office it grossed only ₹16 crore. The screenplay for the movie was written by Ashutosh Gowariker , Sameer Sharma, Lalit Marathe , Amin Hajee, Charlotte Whitby-Coles, Yashodeep Nigudkar and Ayan Mukerji. Cinematography was done by Mahesh Aney and editing by Ballu Saluja. The music was composed by Ar Rahman along with A. R. Rahman. At the 2005 IIFA Awards It won an award for Best Lyricist. At the 2005 National Film Awards It also won 2 awards including: Best Playback Singer (Male) and Best Cinematography.
