In the 23rd century, the starship Enterprise intercepts an alien energy cloud, navigates tensions between Admiral Kirk and Captain Decker, faces attacks by the entity VGer, discovers it is an upgraded Earth space probe, and ultimately saves Earth with the sacrifice of Decker. Star Trek: The Motion Picture is a 1979 American English-language Adventure Mystery film featuring William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Deforest Kelley, James Doohan, George Takei, Majel Barrett and Doug Hale. The movie is based on Star Trek by Gene Roddenberry. Banner Productions was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Gene Roddenberry. Star Trek: The Motion Picture is written by Gene Roddenberry, Harold Livingston and Alan Dean Foster and it is directed by Robert Wise. Paramount Pictures acquired the distribution rights for the motion picture. Star Trek: The Motion Picture was released on 8th December 1979 and takes a screen time of 132 minutes. The Film was successful at box office. Star Trek: The Motion Picture was made on a budget of $35 million and it was a super hit at box office gross of $82 million.
