Spartacus is a 1960 American English-language Adventure Biography movie starring Kirk Douglas, Laurence Olivier, Jean Simmons, Charles Laughton, Peter Ustinov, John Gavin and Robert Perry. The movie is based on Spartacus by Howard Fast. Bryna Productions was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Edward Lewis. Spartacus is written by Dalton Trumbo, Howard Fast, Peter Ustinov and Calder Willingham and it is directed by Stanley Kubrick. Universal International acquired the distribution rights for the movie. Spartacus was released on 17th November 1960 and takes a screen time of 197 minutes. and it received positive reviews from critics when it was released. Spartacus was made on a budget of $12 million and at the box office it grossed only $1 million. The screenplay for the movie was written by Dalton Trumbo. Cinematography was done by Russell Metty and editing by Robert Lawrence. The music was composed by Alex North. At the 1961 Oscar Awards It won 4 awards including: Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Peter Ustinov), Best Cinematography, Color, Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Color and Best Costume Design, Color.
