Three sisters in 1968 Detroit form a music group, face abusive relationships and drug addiction, but ultimately find success and reconciliation with their mother. Sparkle is written by Mara Brock Akil, Joel Schumacher and Howard Rosenman and it is directed by Salim Akil. Sony Pictures Releasing acquired the distribution rights for the movie.
