Franny, an anthropology student, returns to New York City when her brother Henry falls into a coma, and as she spends time with him in the hospital, she forms a bond with James Forester, Henrys favorite musician, leading to various experiences and a romantic encounter between Franny and James, culminating in a bittersweet ending.
