John Jack Sommersby returns to his farm after being presumed dead for six years, and while trying to revive the local economy and unite the town, he faces skepticism, opposition, and threats, leading to his arrest, conviction for murder, and ultimately, his execution. Sommersby is a 1993 American English-language Drama Mystery film featuring Richard Gere, Jodie Foster, Bill Pullman, James Earl Jones, Lanny Flaherty, Wendell Wellman and Harry T. Daniel. The movie is inspired from The Return of Martin Guerre by Daniel Vigne Jean-Claude Carri re Natalie Zemon Davis. Le Studio Canal+ in association with Regency Enterprises and Alcor Films. were the production houses involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Arnon Milchan and Steven Reuther. Sommersby is written by Daniel Vigne, Jean-claude Carrière, Nicholas Meyer, Anthony Shaffer, Sarah Kernochan, Richard Gere, Mary Mclaglen, Arnon Milchan, Steven Reuther and Maggie Wilde and it is directed by Jon Amiel. Warner Bros. acquired the distribution rights for the film. Sommersby was released on 5th February 1993 and takes a screen time of 113 minutes. The Film was successful at box office. Sommersby was made on a budget of $30 million and it was a super hit at box office gross of $140 million. The screenplay for the movie was written by Nicholas Meyer and Sarah Kernochan. Cinematography was done by Philippe Rousselot and editing by Peter Boyle. The music was composed by Danny Elfman.
