Laura Burney endures years of abuse from her husband, Martin, and decides to fake her death, escape to Iowa, and start a new life as Sara Waters; however, Martin discovers her whereabouts, breaks into her house, but Laura and her neighbor, Ben, overpower him, leading to Laura shooting and killing Martin to protect herself, with both Laura and Ben awaiting the arrival of the police.
