A gifted Carnatic singer becomes frustrated with his wifes intellectual limitations and their inability to have children, leading to an affair with an intellectual equal, alcoholism, theft, and a downward spiral until his mistress leaves town and he is left to raise a child with his wife. Sindhu Bhairavi is a 1985 Indian Tamil-language Drama Musical film starring Sivakumar, Suhasini Maniratnam, Sulakshana Gopikrishnan, Delhi Ganesh and Janagaraj. Kavithalayaa Productions was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Rajam Balachander and Pushpa Kandaswamy. The motion picture is written and directed by K. Balachander. Kavithalayaa Productions acquired the distribution rights for the film. Sindhu Bhairavi was released on 11th November 1985 and takes a screen time of 159 minutes. The motion picture made a box office gross of ₹1 crore. Cinematography was done by R. Raghunatha Reddy and editing by Ganesh Kumar. The music was composed by National Award winner Ilaiyaraaja. At the 1986 South Filmfare Awards It won an award for Best Film. At the 1986 National Film Awards It also won 2 awards including: Best Actress (Suhasini Maniratnam) and Best Music Director.
