Shahid Azmi becomes a successful defence lawyer, representing Muslim youth in terrorism cases after witnessing the horrors of the Bombay riots and spending seven years in jail on false charges, until he is assassinated in his office defending a Muslim accused in the 2008 Mumbai attacks case. Shahid is a 2013 Hindi-language Biography Crime motion picture starring Rajkummar Rao, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Baljinder Kaur, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Kay Kay Menon, Vipin Sharma and Saharsh Kumar Shukla. Shahid was Produced by Anurag Kashyap, Guneet Monga, Siddharth Roy Kapur and Sunil Bohra. Shahid is written by Sameer Gautam Singh and Hansal Mehta and it is directed by Hansal Mehta. Shahid was released on 18th October 2013. Shahid was made on a budget of ₹6 crore and at the box office it grossed only ₹1 crore. At the 2014 Filmfare Awards It won an award for Best Actor (Rajkummar Rao). At the 2014 National Film Awards It also won an award for Best Direction.
