A family from Bihar, India, migrates to East Pakistan and later to the western part of Pakistan, facing challenges and relying on Refugees help, forming a love story between Refugee and Nazneen, while also dealing with being questioned by the police and Refugees unintentional involvement in terrorist attacks, leading to his fight against the terrorists and the birth of his child at the border. HR Enterprises acquired the distribution rights for the movie. Refugee was released on 30th June 2000 and takes a screen time of 210 minutes. Refugee was made on a budget of ₹15 crore and it was a hit at box office gross of ₹17 crore. Cinematography was done by Basheer Ali and editing by Deepak Y. Wirkud and Vilas Ranade.
